Hello Dear Readers,
I've been absent for a while. You know how it is---life gets in the way. However, today I want to share some exciting news with you.
March 11th my new romantic thriller Murders at Buzzards Bay released. Wouldn't you know it, the day it released, I was deep in the Okefenokee Swamp fighting black flies and counting gators. Hmm, a perfect setting for a new murder mystery.
Anyhow, I digress. I'm thrilled, excited, and over the moon that not only did Murders at Buzzards Bay receive a 5+ Star review, the reviewer compared my writing style to three great authors -- J.D. Robb aka Nora Roberts, Sandra Brown, and Linda Howard. WooHoo! How cool is that!
Book Review | Murders at Buzzards Bay by Loretta C. Rogers, perfect for readers who enjoy romantic suspense and romantic mystery
A suspenseful and romantic murder mystery set in a picturesque but dying small town, perfect for fans of Sandra Brown.
Sheriff Samantha Ralston returns to the small town of Somerset where she endured unspeakable trauma as a child, seeking justice for her murdered parents. However, on the first day of her new job, a dead body washes ashore, plunging her into a new murder mystery. She finds allies and friends among the townsfolk, including a cute veterinarian named Tom. With their help, she uncovers more shocking secrets and crime than she could’ve ever anticipated.
Sam is a strong main character with a complex backstory and a tenacious personality that makes her endearing while commanding respect. Tom balances Sam’s character out well with his own complicated past, creating simmering tension and a believable romance. The secondary cast, including her fellow officers Nate and Lou, all play important roles in creating suspense, providing witty and comedic dialogue, and forwarding the plot.
The isolated setting with a killer in the midst and limited resources—including no medical examiner or hospital—complicates the investigation and provides tension. The various unpredictable mysteries surrounding the criminal activity in town unravel at a good pace and are well-explained. Also, a standout is the romance subplot that is well-developed and slow burning, leaving the reader satisfied.
I highly recommend this book for fans of romantic suspense or police procedurals along the lines of J.D. Robb or Linda Howard.
